They are observed the most among shallow coral reefs. Sometimes zebra sharks swim into river mouths. They are nocturnal and live rather lonely life although abundant concentrations of individuals up to several dozens can be observed. Its food consists mainly of mollusca, sometimes small crustaceans, fishes or marine snakes. When provoked, the sharks can bite, but it happens rarely. In regions of touristic value, diving with feeding zebra sharks is organized. Young individuals are coloured in different way than adult sharks – they have yellowish, transversal stripes on the body (that is why they are called zebra sharks). The colouring suppose to make it hard to the predator to see single shark in a group of individuals. Adult sharks, on the other hand, have dark spots on grey background. Zebra sharks live up to 25 – 30 years in natural environment.
