International Biodiversity Day GDYNIA

In May Gdynia Aquarium celebrated an International Biodiversity Day. It was a great opportunity to make a joint event and cooperate with other partner - Centre for Ecological Information and Education.

Centre for Ecological Information and Education organize trainings for teachers, employees of local authorities and non-governmental organizations on different topics and issues of ecological education and environmental protection.
The event consisted of many activities and attractions dedicated mostly for children but adults could also take part in it. Our aim was to mix knowledge, fun, excitement and produce nice memories connected with marine sciences.
During the day, people were invited to the Aquarium to visit our laboratory where they had an opportunity to see all kinds of Baltic fauna and flora. Phyto- and zooplankton could be observed via microscopes. The Aquarium staff was willing to answer any question concerning the topic. We were also screening ecological movies “Meadow” provided by Centre for Ecological Information and Education and ‘Marine Mammals” which is our piece in ‘cinema’.
In the open air the atmosphere was rather artistic. People could create a huge meadow and a costal zone of the Baltic Sea with pens, pencils and plasticine or carry out chemical experiments. In the meantime, everybody had opportunity to try mountain climbing and folk – dancing.
